Background and Objectives of the Camp
- The Vision of the 3rd APNG Camp

The third gathering of the APNG Camp, which aims to discover & bless Internet leaders of the next generation, is approaching. The 1st Camp in Bangkok was convened by seniors of the APNG and purposed to make a core group of the camp. At the 2nd Camp in Shanghai, the next generation attempted to self-plan the camp and expand the core group. The 2nd camp can be valued as a success for a number of reasons; there were many more Participants (about 60 persons), working groups were formed, and the over-all program by the next generation committee was carried out well.
This 3rd Camp strives to get minimum support from the seniors while seeking independent planning, funding, and management resources. Through the 3rd Camp, the APNG Camp aims to establish itself as an active agent for the next generation to grow into capable Internet leaders in the global environment.

- The Purport of the 3rd Camp Programme

The prevailing theme at the 1st Camp were topics of the AP* & Asia Perspective of the Internet. At the 2nd Camp, the main theme was "Asia Network of the Next Generation" and we talked about the meaning of Asia Next Generation Network, Internet leadership in the AP, together with breakup sessions divided into four groups (digital divide, internet policy, feminism & technology, Asia youth culture). These breakup sessions developed into Working Groups.

The main theme of this 3rd Camp is "New Relationship with the Net". The sub topics may be 1. Cyber Sex 2. On-line Game 3. On-line Communities. These topics were suggested at the informal meeting after the 2nd Camp finished in Shanghai. When asked "What activities is the next generation in the AP doing the most?" most Participants brought up the three topics mentioned above.
Although these topics can be strange for members of the AP*, they are in fact vastly popular with the next generation in the AP and predominantly the channel and contents through which the next generation experience the Internet. By researching these topics, we will investigate the development of network technology in the Post-modern age. How does it influence people, especially the next generation? What issues need to be focused on for Internet leadership in the AP? Thus the theme of the 3rd Camp has significance in that it experiments on the processes of discovering the meaning of technology through cultural phenomena.
Moreover, let us newly define the term "Next Generation"; not only as something divided by "age group" but also as `a generation who possess shared experiences under digitally mediated cultural conditions`. It is by far time that we start speaking from common experiences as well as similitude of age.

Along with the investigation of the main theme, there will be sessions of the Working Groups. Each working group will plan and run its own session. The topics of the Working Groups are valuable duly deserve continued attention in the APNG Camp. Therefore, the 3rd Camp will be divided into two parts. One is the "Main Event Day" and the other is the "Working Groups' Day". We hope that this format will enable the 3rd Camp to result in the successful branching of small networks for the Working Groups.
