Fellow report of 8 th APNG camp

Name: Md. Abdur Rahman
Country: Bangladesh
Group: E-Commerce

Introduction:

I still can remember the day when I first got a mail from APNG about my fellowship. I was like a dream come true to me. I heard a lot about the APNG camp and was eagerly waiting to participate in the camp where all the experts form this part of the world exchange their knowledge. I was quite excited to make new friends and gain knowledge about the modern internet technologies.

Arrival:

I reached Singapore Changi airport at around 8:30 pm on 17 th July. I was very excited to meet new friends with little tension to look for the YMCA hotel. But eventually I reached the hotel quite easily and safely. After reaching their all my tension was gone after seeing the laughing face of Awal, Joan and Aadit. After that only the excitement to meet new friends from all over the world was left inside me. Next morning I meet almost everybody in the hotel lobby.

Expectations:

  1. Sharing my research knowledge with the experts.
  2. Gaining knowledge about the state of the art activities in the internet technologies.
  3. Making new friends.
  4. Represent my own country ( Bangladesh ) to my new friends.
  5. Introduction with the culture of other countries in this region.
  6. Getting some new ideas.

Achievements:

First of all I would like say Singapore is a nice country. Everything is very neat and clean and very much organized. The climate was similar as my country, so I had no problem to adjust. The camp venue (NUS) campus is very good and well planned. I liked the campus very much. Initially I thought attending the camp for the whole day will be boring, but it was exactly opposite. It seems to be finished with the blink of eyes. The first presentation by Mr. Chon was very interesting, it gave the indication that, I am in the right place. All the presentation by the guest speakers was interesting and gave a lot of materials to think.

Now, let's come to my expectations and achievements. I have presented my research paper and got some positive comments from the attentive audiences. It gave courage and strength to carry on my activities in the field. All the presentations and talks were rich in terms of contents and organizations. I gained some good knowledge about the modern activities in the internet area in Asia . My supreme achievement in the APNG camp is all my friends here. I feel proud to talk and introduce myself with grand pa Tommy San and Prof. Lee. Among others now I can especially remember Mr. Amaraweera, Sumith, Prabal, Archana, Aadit, Tsering, Snow, Joan, Sana, Kasif, Ishino, Higiri, Hanbo, Xiohui, 8con, Dr. Kondo san, Sagarika, Ravindra, Dihan, Higiri and CINDERALA . Sorry if I make any mistake with the spelling of the names or missed your name. Of course I remember the friendly and lively appearance of Awal as the camp chair. It was a pleasure for me to talk with Prof. Bonk with the e-learning issues. Prof. Bonk made me rich by giving two million dollars for my participation in the discussions (lolz). I got some new ideas from this camp and already started working on that. Hopefully, I will represent them in the next camp.

Attraction:

The main attraction of the APNG camp was the costume party. Everybody tried to represent their own country and culture by their costumes. I represented the youth group of Bangladesh and told everybody how we are changing and modifying our traditional dresses. Everybody liked the sweets from Bangladesh. Sweets are very common item in Bangladesh and it's the part to all our social and cultural festivals. I liked the costume party very much. It took out all the shyness and hesitation from all of us.

Walking in the Orchard road in the Night was quite an experience. We got lots of fun just by walking and watching the shops. The site seeing tour to the Sentosa Island was a pleasant one. We liked it very much. Butterfly world was very charming and serene. Visiting the Sntosa Iland with Prabal, Archana, Aadit, Tsering and Snow was a very good experience for me. We enjoyed ever moment in the Island .

Surprise:

Becoming the Chair for the e-commerce WG was very surprising for me. When the camp chair for the nominees for the WG chair, only I was interested. So there was no competition (lolz). I enjoyed the position and was little tensed about the final presentation because it was my first appearance in APNG and I became the chair. Becoming the committee member for the next camp is a honor for me. I will try my best to make my WG more interesting and active in the next camp.

Final Words:

Finally, visiting Singapore to attend APNG camp is a very pleasant experience for me. I enjoyed every moment of the camp. In the last day I became sad to say good bye to everybody. I wish to meet everybody again and again in the forthcoming APNG camps.
