About APNG Camp
The 8th APNG camp was held in Singapore from 18th July to 20th July. This was my first time to apng and my first time visit to Singapore as well. I arrived to Singapore on 17 July and on that day, we had welcome party. On that party, I met with other fellows from different countries and we introduced each other and I saw that they all are very friendly. I met with Tommy and Professor Lee (APNG chair) on that party also. They treated us very warmly and greeted us like their closed friends. The foods are also great and the party was finished at round about 9 pm.
On 18 July, our camp was started at NUS. The camp was started by opening speech of Awal (APNG camp chair) and then followed by the professor lee. She talked about APNG as a brief. After that every one who were in camp introduced by them. Workgroup chairs also presented about their working groups. Some fellows made their presentations and from those presentations, I got knowledge about E-commerce, E-learning, barter-trade and universal web access using web standards. Moreover, I got knowledge about their own country and IT status of those countries. There were some keynote speeches and sponsor speeches on that day also. The keynote speeches were presented by kilnam Chon, Byeong Gook Lee,Tommy Matsumoto and they talked about digital archive, how to use network collaboration on global medical education era and Live-E project. The knowledge from those keynote speeches is very informative and very useful for us. For the sponsor speeches, Paul Wilson from APNIC, Kiyoshi Igarashi from NICT presented about their organizations. Workgroup discussions were followed by those above presentations. I am in e-learning working group and our working group chair is Atsushi Hikita. We discussed about live-e project, e-learning standards, content and technology. At the evening, we joined the dinner party with APAN .I had a great time on that day and it was Memorial Day for me.
On 19 July, our camp was continued by keynote speeches, fellow presentations and local camp reports. As a keynote speech, Lucifer chu presented OOPS, Surat Lertlum presented Geo-informatics Applications for Cultural Studies in SouthEast Asia, So Hyo Jeong presented Instructional Strategies for Designing interactive and collaboration e-learning environments. We continued our work group discussion after local camp reports were presented. On that day, after the dinner, we had costume party and so we left at 7:30 exactly from the dinner place. On the costume party, everybody wore their national dress. And we also made cultural transfer by dancing and singing songs. We had a lot of fun and we took photos together at the party.
20 July 2006, that day is last day of APNG camp. During the morning session, keynote speech was started by Curtis Jay Bonk and he presented about blended learning. And then followed by some fellows’ presentations. After the morning break, keynote speeches of Professor Lee and James Seng were continued. After that, workgroup summary report and presentations were continued. As a final, APNG annual general meeting were made in which APNG camp chair and working group chairs for next year were selected. Moreover, we discussed about the plan that how to improve APNG camp better and better. Round about 3 pm , we went to santosa island and we joined the dinner at jumbo seafood restraunt. And then, we all took photos together with Professor Lee and Tommy. On the way return to our hotel, I was thinking about the memorial events of APNG the whole time.
Suggestions for the next camp
- To extend more working groups
- To choose keynote speeches depend on working groups
- To submit the paper from each working groups and that paper will be aimed for submitting in conference
- To put all keynote speeches and fellow presentations on APNG website
- To upgrade APNG website to be more attractive
- To have a book which write down all information of participants and distribute it during the camp
