The 8th Asia Pacific Next Generation Camp

Report on 8th Asia Pacific Networking Group (APNG) Camp
18th – 20th July 2006
National University Singapore

I wish to show my appreciation to APNG organizers who arranged this recent event in Singapore under the great leadership of Prof. Okhwa Lee and great support from our great Grand Pa! Mr. Tommy Matsumoto.

The APNG Camp provided a great learning experience for the young generation. From this platform, individuals were able to interact with technical professionals from across the Asia-pacific region whose advice was highly practical and well-informed. They gave their suggestions with the understanding that many of the participants were from under developed countries and ensured that advice given could also be applied in such scenarios. Participants could directly gain benefit from this pool of professional knowledge, experience and gain greater insights. Great thanks must be given to the technical professionals who were very cooperative and encouraging. Furthermore, the greatest incentive for any perspective participants is the chance to develop a social network.

I would also like to share a few recommendations which I feel will further strengthen the vision of the APNG Camp.

Recommendations for future Camp

  1. A formal handout can be given to the attendees in advance so that participants can have an overall view of the presentations beforehand.
  2. The FAQ section’s time may be increased because that is the most important for the participants who are interested in knowing that knowledge area.
  3. Feed back form should be presented for every individual presenter; this will help the presenter identifying his weaknesses and improve them in future.
  4. The logos of the sponsors may be affixed in the certificate for the attendees, this activity will highly motivate the sponsors as this multi cultural group consists participants from different countries around the world, on the other hand will help the organizers to get more grants and sponsorships.
  5. In this camp for the very first time some papers were published in the local workshop. The booklet of publication should be distributed to the participants.
  6. A big banner of APNG along with its sponsored logos should be present right above or below the multimedia screen, every picture that is taken in the presentation will clearly spread the name of the APNG camp.
  7. If possible the time duration of the camp should be increased from 3 days to 5 days. This will help the attendees to share their thoughts more easily and effectively.
  8. A small prize should be given to the presenter, which stood first amongst all in a black and white voting process from all the participants.
  9. A technological visit may be arranged for the participants that should reflect the country achievement in science and technology.
  10. We should increase the size of the participants from every country, this will help APNG not only grow the size but will also increase the motivation of local presence of the APNG in every country.
