Working Group on Natural Disaster recovery Management and e- Health

Introduction

This work group in APNG was introduced in the 6th camp which was held in Kyoto Japan, due to the massive disaster created by Tsunami which affected mostly to South Asian Region countries such as Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, India, and Malaysia. It was emphasized at the last discussion, that these countries were affected by Tsunami due to lack of proper communication technologies and methods at the disaster areas. The then called 'Tsunami Disaster Recovery Management Working Group' mainly targeted itself to find ways to overcome the barriers in communication in such situations.

Although  the WG  was introduced due to the Tsunami disaster encountered last December, it will focus not only on Tsunami but also on encouraging representatives from various countries to share the precautionary and prevention techniques used in their countries on events such as earth quakes, earth slipping, floods.

This WG also aims to integrate the e-health related issues into it. E - health refers to health services and information delivered or enhanced through the Internet and related technologies. The main objective of this integration is to discover ways in which techniques use in e-health can be applied for the purpose of conducting remote health care activities during disaster recovery and management.

Topics

In our WG we would be mainly focused in the following areas:

  • Experience of the local personnel on how they faced Tsunami and recovered from the incident.

  • Precautionary techniques such as alarming systems.

  • Problems faced when trying to over come these problems.

  • Future plans on Disaster Recovery Management.

  • Current e-health related projects being undertaken and implemented in their countries.

  • Problems mainly encountered during the implementation of the e-health related projects, for example, legal issues.
