Fellowship Program

Overview:

The 8th Camp of the Asia Pacific Next Generation (APNG) is planned to be held from 18th to 20th July, 2006 in Singapore. The APNG Camp is:

  • Where future Internet leaders in the AP Region meet together.

  • Where AP Seniors and the Next Generation learn & work together.

  • Where AP perspective of the Internet is shared and discussed.

Since its 5th Camp, APNG Camp Committee has incorporated a Fellowship Program to provide opportunities to developing country’s personnel to participate in APNG Camp. We would like to continue this program for the 4th time due to continues success and its importance for securing the participation of young generation for the Camp from developing countries. This program provides basic assistance to successful fellows to cover registration fee, local accommodation and meal expenses, and a portion of fellow's roundtrip airfare.

The APNG Camp Committee now cordially invites suitable applicants to apply for fellowship funding to participate in 8th APNG Camp in Singapore.

Who can participate?

The APNG Camp Fellowship Program targets personnel from developing countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the following roles:

  • Young network architects/developers/engineers

  • Young decision makers in government, educational, non-government, commercial, non-profit sectors related to Internet development in  respective countries and economies

  • Young on-line activists in (yet not limited to) social, business, environmental, gender equivalence, entertainment, etc.

Awarded Package

Successful applicants will award fellowship for registration fee, local accommodation and meal expenses, and (full or portion of) roundtrip airfare. The final grant size is determined according to final costs and available funding, and will inform all successful applicants.

Criteria for Selection:

The 8th APNG Camp Fellowship Committee will select the fellows according to following criteria. 

  1. Residency in a developing country

  2. Full-time student of a university or college (public or private), or

  3. Employed by Internet-related companies and in the age less than 35 years old

  4. Willingness to return to APNG Camp as a presenter or trainer in future

  5. Willingness to work with working groups

  6. Willingness and capability to present your country's culture/heritage/traditions/costume

  7. Presentation materials submitted for APNG Camp “Call for Presentation”. The presentations are expected to align with one of the following working groups (WG):

  1. Internet Technologies WG

  2. Internet Culture & Blog WG

  3. E-learning & Live E WG

  4. Disaster Management & E-Helth WG

  5. E-Commerce & Business Start-up WG

 Applicants from any part of the world will be considered, however it is expected that the majority of fellows selected will be from the Asia-Pacific region.

All members of APNG Camp Committee will review all application forms in the first place. APNG Fellowship Selection Committee will review who meet the above selection criteria in their final decision. The 8th APNG Camp Fellowship Selection Committee Chaired by Prof. Okhwa Lee and constituted by APNG Steering Committee and APNG Camp Committee.

Schedules:

The following deadlines will apply to the APNG 8th Camp Fellowship Program:

  • Public Announcement:  01st February, 2006

  • Applications Deadline: 15th March, 2006

  • Notification:                     01st April, 2006

 The applicant may wish, and is encouraged to submit the presentation material for speech opportunity in the APNG Camp. Refer to 'Call for Presentation' for details.

  • Description of presentation (between 250 and 500 words):

  • Authors should aim for presentations of 20 to 30 minutes duration, including question time.

  • How you would present your countries ethnicity in 8th APNG (Do something really unique to your ethnicity):

  • Note that this is not as a formal presentation (of course if you want you can do it as a presentation). However you will get opportunities at the dinner time/in the afternoon/after the sessions/on the travelling time/at the site seeing/etc. You should be able entertain others. Ex: songs/dance/costumes/jokes/dramas/etc (Think some thing unique to your country) :-)           

A formal paper is not required but we would expect you to make the PowerPoint material available to delegates. To apply, please submit your Application Form with full details to the APNG Camp Committee, by email to <camp-fp@apng.org>.
